Business Intelligence

Energy Konnect supports the application of business intelligence at a number of levels. Third-party tools can apply OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) to existing historical data. The integrated rules engine supports the uploading of business rules to the Energy Konnect framework. Through this feature, prepackaged rules developed by industry experts may be purchased independently and loaded into the rules engine. Uniquely, Energy Konnect can map observations to remedies and provide the necessary advice to support effective action.

Tariffs and Procurement

The tariff engine incorporated into Energy Konnect supports the creation and application of standard and custom tariffs. Energy Konnect maintains a history of the energy tariffs applied to organisational units, allowing historical costs to be calculated after tariffs have been changed. Energy Konnect also provides the facility to compare a number of tariffs across a period, supporting ‘what-if’ scenarios.
The flexibility of Energy Konnect’s tariff engine positions it for impending developments in energy tariffs such as demand response and smart grids. Currently, the tariff engine is used in ResourceKraft’s standard Advisor product to support the procurement process, allowing users to compare tariffs from various suppliers.

Regulatory and Compliance

Energy Konnect is an ideal framework for applications that manage and submit data for standards compliance. For example, the data model provides the necessary data to register a building and its meters for ENERGYSTAR’s Automated Benchmarking System. Usage data is also readily available for submission. Energy Konnect also has in-built support for carbon usage calculation.

Organisation Structures

In any organisation there may be several different approaches to organising energy data sources. Typically, the most obvious physical topology is unlikely to be the most applicable arrangement for business data analysis. The model at the core of Energy Konnect has the in-built flexibility necessary to model energy in terms of business units as well as temporary groupings e.g. project-specific groupings. While supporting flexibility and complex organisational structures, Energy Konnect provides the facilities to drill down and trace usage to source through any organisational structure, identifying what it cost and, if necessary, what corrective action must be taken. Energy Konnect also supports the validation of organisational structures. This avoids mis-configuration and resulting issues such as double counting of usage.
